Since I was 15 years old, I’ve been “the cosmetics freak”. I took my mom’s anti-aging creams hidden and used it at least 2 times a day.
As I got older, when I could buy my own creams, I’m still pretty impressed with everything new that came out: retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid… Everything I wanted to use. Until all this amount of creams started to have the opposite effect: instead of improving my skin, they were worsening it, causing more and more pimples.
Several dermatologists had already instructed me to have a skincare routine with fewer products but it was only in the pandemic, with the laziness of doing several steps, that I focused on less creams and saw great results. Today my skin is fresher than ever (to the point that I get several comments from friends), without any blemishes and much lighter.
I tell you below the exact products I use and why:
You probably already know the benefits that vitamin C can bring to our skincare routine. The antioxidant can eliminate hyperpigmentation, diminish fine lines and increase overall radiance.
The one I currently use is the Renew’s Super Antioxidant Concentrate (Avon brand). The texture is a serum that absorbs quickly but I love it because it feels like an oil, leaving the skin very soft.
Then it’s time for the moisturizer. I try to use a moisturizer well — even if my skin isn’t dry — but that doesn’t leave it oily.
O CeraVe dry to extra dry skin moisturizer works wonderfully for me. Normally I have a certain prejudice with “face AND body” creams but this one really works very well for both and I love it.
It already has hyaluronic acid, plus 3 ceramides that balance the skin’s protective barrier. The absorption is very fast and it does not have any irritating ingredients in its formulation.
Of course, I couldn’t leave out the number 1 product to prevent damage and premature appearance of wrinkles: sunscreen. I must say that all the years of using anti-aging early does not compare to the benefits of a simple sunscreen for prevention. At 32 years old and religiously betting on this product, I still have no signs of fine lines or the beginning of wrinkles.
For this step, I prefer sunscreens with a more liquid formulation, such as L’Oreal UV Defender Fluidwhich do not weigh down the skin.
BOOSTER OF HYALURONIC ACID
Right after the shower, I already apply a hyaluronic acid booster. Unlike a moisturizer, which applies hyaluronic acid topically, the booster will encourage your body to produce this active, making sure you always have a good supply of it naturally. Hyaluronic acid works by “pulling” water molecules into cells. So your hydration stays up to date.
I use the HA Intensifier by SkinCeuticals. Then, I apply a layer of the same moisturizer I use in the morning, since it has glycerin and will both “trap” the hyaluronic acid of this first stage, and prepare my skin for the next stage.
Then, it’s time to apply a manipulated cream from Formel Skin.
This is the step we call “treatment”. While the others are for prevention, this one usually has more potent creams (that’s why it happens at night, as they often can’t sunbathe when they’re on the skin) and that treat the problems you already have.
For me, the ideal formula is Tretinoin and Nicotinamine. The first is a retinoid, which accelerates skin renewal, removing blemishes and eliminating any pimples that may arise. The second, on the other hand, balances the skin’s microbiota, preventing inflammation.
