BH makes vaccination campaign against infantile paralysis over the weekend

The City of Belo Horizonte promotes, once again, a campaign of vaccination against poliomyelitis for children from 1 to 4 years old in the capital of Minas Gerais this weekend.

Immunization against infantile paralysis will take place at several points located in all regional BH, this Saturday (17) and Sunday (18). Vaccination coverage in the city is currently at 53.3% of the target audience, which corresponds to about 104,000 children. The target, however, stipulated by the Ministry of Health is 95%.

Parents or legal guardians, when taking the children, must present the following documents: birth certificate or identification document with photo, CPF, proof of address and vaccination card.

Even children who are up to date with their vaccination card should receive another dose of the oral vaccine (droplet) against the disease.

Worrying situation

Last week, the Ministry of Health extended the vaccination campaign against polio until September 30th. This is because the percentage of children vaccinated against the disease is not even half of the ideal established by the campaign.

Experts warn that low vaccination coverage can contribute to the reintroduction of the virus in the country. The disease that can cause immobility or weakening of arms and legs has been eradicated in Brazil. The last case diagnosed in the country occurred in 1989.
